Tree is Life

‘Tree is Life’ traveling art installation in Aid of TreeSisters is a collaboration between artists Ursula Dutkiewicz, Tessa Wylde, Karen Hopkins, Xenica Douglas, Deborah Punton and The Flowering Heart Project.

Why art, trees and collaboration

I am a passionate long time member of Treesisters a global network of women who are committed to the restoration of our forests and the re balancing of humanity’s relationship with the natural world. TreeSisters has always been an open invitation in how we can co-create together on behalf of life, nature and the trees. I came up with an idea to create a traveling art installation in collaboration with other women artists that could be used to support, promote and raise funds in aid of TreeSisters by planting trees in the tropics. We gathered on a beautiful Melbourne day under the shade of a big gum tree and using charcoal, ocher from the central Australia desert and various other paints the five of us spent the day creating together our two by two and a half meter canvas painting. This Link will take you to TreeSisters and information about it’s reforestation strategy that we are supporting. www.treesisters.org/home/trees

Believe you can make a difference

I started 2019 with a dream to gather some women artists in a collaborative art project that could be use as a traveling art installation to raise funds in aid of TreeSisters: women seeding change, and their mission in reforesting the tropics. Here we are at the end of the year and through our efforts we have funded the planting of over 12,000 trees. This has been a wonderful collaboration between my Flowering Heart Project, and artists Karen Hopkins, Xenica Douglas, Deborah Punton, Tessa Wylde and me, Ursula Dutkiewicz. Very excited by what we have achieved, helping us in becoming a restorer species and giving back to the planet. Remember Green Hearts grow trees and if you would like to join in get in touch.

Officially Launched 19-03-2019

The launch was a wonderful gentle evening that brought us together for the first time with our creation. We were able to see what is possible and how the work acts as an interactive art work. We asked people to write messages of support on leaves they could then place on the art work, some examples below. Present were artists Ursula Dutkiewicz,Tessa Wylde, Xenica Douglas, Deborah Punton and we were sadly missing Karen Hopkins whom could not attend. 600 trees will be going in the ground through TreeSisters from the generosity of those whom attended with 15 green hearts walking out the door.

We’d love to invite you to the launch of the ‘Tree is Life’ traveling art installation collaborative art work. Join us for an informal gathering in wishing our project well as it journeys out into the world on its mission to plant thousands of trees in aid of TreeSisters and it’s reforestation projects in the tropics.
We will be in the Garden Studio at Gasworks Arts Park from 7.15 until 9.15pm Monday the 18th of March. Find the Facebook invite here.

Seven Sisters Festival 1-3-03-2019

TreeSisters had a stall at the festival this year and it was here that the traveling art installation had its first outing. It was really well received and exciting for TreeSisters to have the art work and The Flowering Heart Project showcasing how easy it is for artists to collaborate with TreeSisters in planting trees and a fantastic way to offset our carbon footprint.

Second day of collaboration 18-02-2019

‘Tree is Life’ creation day 3-01-2019

We gathered on a beautiful Melbourne day under the shade of a big gum tree at Gasworks Arts Park for the creation of our two by two and a half meter canvas painting. Using charcoal, ocher from the central Australia desert and various other paints the five of us spent the day creating together. We started with a heart sharing and acknowledgment of country and of our beautiful tree.
